The Commission on Presidential Debates has canceled the second debate between current president Donald trump and democratic nominee Joe Biden, after an intense back-and-forth between the commission and both campaigns. After Trump was tested positive for COVID-19 last week, the debate was originally scheduled to be online. However, Trump has made it clear that he will not attend a virtual debate, promptly resulting in the Commission's decision to cancel it altogether to focus on the third debate.
I think this will be a loss for President Trump. He is currently behind Biden in national polls, and I think the debates are where he can change the tide in some sense. He needs to be able to reassure his supporters and firmly state his plans, and without the debate, it will not be as effective. Of course, it is absurd as to why Trump refuses to participate in a virtual debate. Sure, it is not the same and he will no longer be able to interrupt Joe as much, but he should know it's better than nothing.
